The Strand Arcade - Derby
This Arcade is a Grade II listed building in Derby City Conservation Area. It consists of a number of independent retail outlets along a busy pedestrian link and Croft's contract was undertaken whilst maintaining access along the arcade and to the shops which continued trading. High levels of security had to be maintained. There was little or no storage space resulting in just in time deliveries, and noisy operations executed out of normal hours.
The works completed by Croft included the renewal of slate roofs over the shops including associated lead work, work to chimneys and repairs/replacement of rainwater goods, the removal from the site of the glazed canopy for cleaning and repair and subsequent re-fitting, repairs to the iron roof trusses, timber windows, redecorations and the re-paving of the Arcade walkway.
The completed scheme was entered for the RICS Awards 2007 - Building Conservation Category. It received a George Rennie award in recognition of a significant contribution to the Architectural Heritage of Derby from the City Council.
